Blizzard is introducing hardcore servers to World of Warcraft Classic, inspired by the popular “Death = Delete” community add-on. In this mode, each character is limited to one life, meaning if your hero dies, they’re gone for good. No ghostly return or class abilities can save them. Paladins won’t be able to bubble hearth out of tough situations either.

Your character won’t vanish after death; instead, they’ll linger as a ghost, allowing you to stay connected with guildmates and friends. If you want to keep playing after death, Blizzard will offer free transfers to non-hardcore servers.

Expect some players to try to trick others into killing their characters. Blizzard has added restrictions to prevent exploits, such as monster kiting and unintentional PvP flagging. Classic Hardcore will have less focus on PvP combat, with no battleground queues but introducing dueling for deadly matchups. Slaying opponents in duels will grant a permanent cosmetic buff called “String of Ears” to track your victories.

Hardcore servers are coming to World of Warcraft Classic soon, with a public test build launching on June 29th before the end of summer.
