Valve Revamps Steam Mobile App with QR Code Login

Valve has finally released the revamped version of its Steam mobile app for both Android and iOS, bidding farewell to the old and clunky interface. The company had been testing the new design since August of this year, inviting beta testers to try out the application. According to Valve, the app has been rebuilt on a new framework with a modernized design, offering users a fresh and improved experience.

New QR Code Login Feature

One of the most notable additions to the app is the QR code login feature, allowing users to access their Steam account without the hassle of typing in their username and password. By using the two-factor authentication credentials stored on their phones, users can easily verify their identity. After scanning the QR code with their phone, a confirmation page will display details such as the approximate location of the device being used for login, ensuring security and peace of mind for users.

Enhanced User Experience

In addition to the QR code login feature, the new Steam mobile app now includes a more user-friendly Library section where all games are displayed. Users can now conveniently download games remotely to their PC or uninstall them with just a few clicks. The app also offers an improved store browsing experience for mobile displays and customizable notifications for various categories like sales, trades, and friend requests.

Valve has also announced plans to bring the QR code sign-in feature to the Steam Deck and add the Authorized Devices page to the Steam Client and browser, further enhancing security and convenience for Steam users across different platforms.
