Valve Introduces New Steam Deck OLED

Valve has surprised everyone with the announcement of a new Steam Deck OLED, which has already been reviewed. While it may not look drastically different from the outside, the Steam Deck OLED is a significant mid-cycle refresh of a machine that is not even two years old. Along with this new model, Valve has also made adjustments to the configuration of its entry-level option, making it a much more appealing choice for consumers. Apologies to those who recently purchased a Steam Deck!

Enhancements of the Steam Deck OLED

One of the most noticeable upgrades of the Steam Deck OLED is its display. The new model features a 7.4-inch OLED screen with a refresh rate of up to 90Hz, HDR, and a peak brightness of 1,000 nits. This results in pure blacks, near-instantaneous response times, and a more immersive visual experience compared to the previous LCD model. Additionally, the device now comes with a die-shrunk custom APU produced on a 6nm process, a 25% larger battery, Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3 support, and various other improvements for better performance and user experience.

Updated Steam Deck Lineup

The Steam Deck OLED is priced starting at $549 and will replace most models in the lineup, offering options ranging from 256GB to 1TB storage capacity. Valve aims to streamline its offerings with this new lineup, providing consumers with a clearer choice when selecting a Steam Deck that suits their needs.

Valve Introduces New Pricing for Steam Deck

Valve recently announced new pricing for the Steam Deck, with the 64GB LCD model dropping to $349 and the 512GB LCD model dropping to $499. These changes come as Valve introduces the 1TB Steam Deck OLED for $649. The 1TB model offers various improvements and features, including an OLED display and double the storage compared to the previous 512GB model.

Limited Edition Steam Deck OLED

In addition to the standard 1TB model, Valve is also releasing a Limited Edition version of the Steam Deck OLED. Priced at $679, this model features a translucent shell and a customized carry case, making it a unique and attractive option for gamers.

Future Plans for Handheld Gaming

Valve engineer Pierre-Loup Griffais mentioned that the company has plans for successive generations of handheld devices, highlighting their commitment to the handheld gaming market. While there are no concrete updates on future hardware developments, Valve is actively working on improving SteamOS and exploring new input options for larger displays.
