‘Project Loki’ seems like a cool mashup of ‘League of Legends’ and ‘Fortnite’

For almost eight years, Joe Tung led the development of Riot’s popular MOBA, League of Legends. In late 2020, he left to co-found Theorycraft Games. The studio, comprised of individuals who worked on League, Valorant, Overwatch, Halo, Destiny, and Apex Legends, has been quietly working on their first project, codenamed Project Loki. Until now, only a select few content creators and pro-gamers have had the opportunity to play Loki, but that is about to change. Theorycraft has announced a two-day PC playtest starting tomorrow, June 29th.
Project Loki is described as a squad-based hero battleground. Think of MOBA-like heroes needing to land skill shots to excel, but instead of battling on a traditional map, they will fight on a large, Fortnite-inspired battleground. Theorycraft hopes Loki will become the next game people spend thousands of hours playing with friends. Player creativity is a core aspect of the game, as each session begins with teams selecting heroes they believe will lead them to victory, requiring them to adjust strategies in real-time.
Despite being a small and independent studio, Theorycraft Games has the support of venture capital firm Andreessen Horowitz, which participated in the company’s $50 million series B fundraising round last year. With this backing, there are high expectations for Theorycraft to create the next hit like LoL or Apex Legends. Stay tuned for more updates on Project Loki in the coming weeks and months, and you can sign up for the playtest on Theorycraft’s website.
