The FCC Cracks Down on Robocalls: Global UC Disconnected for Anti-Scam Violations

The Federal Communications Commission is not messing around when it comes to robocalls. Global UC found this out the hard way, as they were recently disconnected from other networks for failing to meet anti-scam call requirements. This bold move by the FCC means that other carriers are now required to stop accepting traffic from the company.

In a recent announcement, the FCC revealed their plans to disconnect Global UC and six other companies for not sharing their anti-robocall strategies despite previous warnings. The Commission has made it mandatory for all US-based carriers with IP networks to implement STIR/SHAKEN anti-spoofing measures by June 2021 and to block companies not listed in the Robocall Mitigation Database after September 28th.

While the fate of other offenders remains uncertain, companies that can provide solid plans for reducing robocalls may be able to avoid facing disconnection. The FCC’s crackdown is aimed at encouraging American companies to follow the rules, as they risk losing business if customers decide to switch to alternative providers.
