EU regulators checking out Apple’s latest move against Epic Games

The European Union Enters the Battle Between Apple and Epic Games
The conflict between Apple and Epic Games has caught the attention of the European Union. Bloomberg reports that regulators will be probing Apple’s decision to ban Epic’s developer account, a move that Epic claims is impeding the launch of the Epic Games Store in Europe.
The Escalation of Conflict
The feud between Apple and Epic reached a new level when Epic CEO Tim Sweeney publicly criticized Apple for allegedly trying to evade compliance with the Digital Market Act (DMA). Sweeney referred to Apple’s latest policy announcement as “hot garbage,” pointing out requirements such as meeting Notarization standards, paying a Core Technology fee, and providing proof of $1.1 million in credit for financial disputes.
Trust Concerns
Following Sweeney’s remarks, Apple sent a letter to Epic asking for an explanation as to why they should trust them. Sweeney reassured Apple of their good intentions and willingness to comply, but Apple still decided to revoke Epic’s developer account, citing a breach of contractual obligations.
The Ongoing Dispute
The clash between Apple and Epic is just one in a series of conflicts between the two companies. From disputes over a Fortnite update allowing direct payments to legal battles concerning antitrust issues, tensions have been simmering for years. With the EU enforcing the DMA and targeting tech “gatekeepers” like Apple, both parties face higher stakes than ever before. If Apple is found to be in violation of the new law, they could be subject to substantial fines, further complicating this ongoing feud.
