Epic Games Introduces User Ratings Feature and Cross-Play Tools

User Ratings Feature

Epic Games has finally implemented a highly anticipated feature on its store: user ratings. According to the company, only players who have spent at least two hours in a game will be able to rate it on a five-star scale. Furthermore, not every player will have the ability to rate a game, as Epic will randomly prompt users to provide a score after completing a play session. This approach is intended to deter review bombing and ensure that ratings come from individuals actively engaged in playing the games.

Cross-Play Tools

In addition to the user ratings feature, Epic Games is also rolling out a set of cross-play tools for developers. The Epic Online Services now include an overlay that facilitates the integration of Steam and Epic Games friends lists. This feature enables players to connect with friends, send requests, and join multiplayer sessions across different platforms through in-game invites.

Epic Games’ cross-play support extends beyond Steam, with plans to include other PC launchers, macOS, and Linux. The company is also working on adding cross-play tools for consoles and mobile devices to the SDK in the future. Notably, popular Epic Games such as Fortnite, Rocket League, and Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout already offer extensive cross-play capabilities.
