With a potential FTC antitrust lawsuit looming, Amazon is making moves to streamline its in-house brands. The retail giant is set to cut 27 of its 30 clothing labels and all of its private-label furniture lines, as reported by The Wall Street Journal. While details on other areas of cuts remain unclear, it seems that the Amazon Basics brand will remain largely untouched. The decision to eliminate certain products comes as Amazon aims to focus on offerings that are more popular with customers.

Among the clothing brands being phased out are Lark & Ro, Daily Ritual, and Goodthreads, while Amazon Essentials, Amazon Collection, and Amazon Aware are expected to stay. In the furniture department, Rivet and Stone & Beam will reportedly be discontinued once current stock runs out. Matt Taddy, VP of Amazon Private Brands, emphasized that customer preferences are driving these changes, with a focus on providing value and quality through popular brands like Amazon Basics and Amazon Essentials.

The timing of these brand reductions coincides with upcoming discussions between Amazon representatives and FTC officials. This meeting is seen as a final opportunity for Amazon to address concerns before a potential lawsuit is filed. The FTC’s interest in Amazon’s interactions with third-party sellers has been a focal point in antitrust investigations, with reports of Amazon using internal data to develop competing products. As the company navigates these challenges, it continues to face scrutiny over its business practices and treatment of customers.
