The FCC to Vote on Restoring Net Neutrality

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) is preparing to vote on the restoration of net neutrality later this month. With Democrats now in the majority in the FCC, the agency is poised to fulfill President Biden’s executive order to bring back the Obama-era rules that were dismantled in 2017.

Crucial Vote Scheduled for April 25

The FCC is set to hold a crucial vote during a meeting on April 25. Net neutrality classifies broadband services as a vital resource under Title II of the Communications Act, granting the FCC increased authority to regulate the industry and prevent ISPs from engaging in anti-consumer practices. Democrats faced obstacles in reinstating the rules and ultimately regained control of the FCC with the appointment of Anna Gomez. FCC Chairwoman Rosenworcel emphasized the importance of reinstating net neutrality to champion consumer interests in an open internet.
