Google and the European Commission team up to shape AI rules

The potential of generative AI for massive disruption has caught the attention of governments worldwide, leading to proactive measures being taken. European Commission industry chief Thierry Breton recently announced a voluntary pact with Alphabet to establish ground rules for artificial intelligence. This collaboration aims to set guidelines ahead of official legislation, such as the EU’s proposed AI Act, to ensure a smooth transition into regulated AI practices.
EU and US Collaboration on AI Standards
In a similar vein, EU tech chief Margrethe Vestager revealed plans for collaboration with the United States to set minimum standards for AI. The goal is to reach a common text for regulation by the end of 2023, addressing concerns such as copyright, disinformation, transparency, and governance. This joint effort reflects the importance of international cooperation in shaping the future of AI regulation.
