Take-Two scoops up Gearbox from Embracer for $460 million

Take-Two Interactive Acquires Gearbox Entertainment
Take-Two Interactive, the parent company of popular game publisher Rockstar, has acquired Gearbox Entertainment from Embracer Group in a deal worth $460 million in stock. This acquisition includes three studios and several well-known franchises such as Borderlands and Duke Nukem.
Gearbox’s Future Projects and Embracer’s Restructuring
Take-Two has revealed that Gearbox has six key interactive entertainment projects in development, including sequels to Homeworld and Borderlands. Meanwhile, Embracer Group, which originally bought Gearbox in 2021, has faced financial challenges and major restructuring efforts, including layoffs and studio closures.
In other industry news, Sega has sold Relic Entertainment and announced job cuts in Europe, impacting studios like Creative Assembly and Hardlight Studios.
