Atari acquires master of retro games, Digital Eclipse

Atari Acquires Digital Eclipse in $20 Million Deal
Atari has agreed to buy developer Digital Eclipse in a deal worth up to $20 million. The acquisition is expected to close soon, with Atari aiming to further support its retro-focused growth strategy through this partnership.
Expertise in Remastering Retro Titles
Digital Eclipse has gained recognition for its expertise in remastering older titles and releasing them as collections. Projects like “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Cowabunga Collection,” “Disney Classic Games: Aladdin and The Lion King,” and the “SNK 40th Anniversary Collection” have showcased their skill in bringing classic games to modern platforms.
Preservation Projects and Future Plans
Digital Eclipse’s Gold Master Series preservation project will continue under Atari’s umbrella, allowing them to work with third-party developers and publishers. With several non-Atari projects in the pipeline, the studio is poised to make further contributions to game preservation and remastering.
Atari’s Retro Gaming Expansion
Atari’s acquisition of Digital Eclipse is part of its larger strategy to dominate the retro gaming and preservation market. In addition to Digital Eclipse, Atari has also purchased Nightdive Studios, a specialist in remasters, and AtariAge, a community and news site focused on Atari. By acquiring gaming franchises from the 1980s and 1990s, Atari is solidifying its position as a powerhouse in the world of retro gaming.
