BlizzCon Announcement: Overwatch 2 Introduces Mauga

The excitement was palpable at BlizzCon as Blizzard unveiled the latest updates for Overwatch 2 during the opening ceremony. Among the exciting reveals was the introduction of the next hero, Mauga, who happens to be Baptiste’s old comrade. Fans were given an early sneak peek thanks to a leak on the Nintendo Switch eShop’s news tab.

Mauga comes armed with dual chainguns and a powerful charge ability that can send enemies flying off the map. His support ability not only reduces damage taken by nearby allies but also allows them to heal while attacking enemies. And let’s not forget his ultimate ability, where he traps opponents in a cage match with unlimited ammo at his disposal.

Excitingly, players will have the chance to test out Mauga before his official debut when Overwatch 2’s eighth season launches in December. This weekend, he will be available in most game modes across all platforms, with BlizzCon attendees getting a special hands-on experience.

Looking ahead, Overwatch 2 director Aaron Keller teased some upcoming features for 2024. A new competitive game mode called Clash will debut, where teams compete to capture five points in a row. The first map for Clash will be a fresh take on the beloved Hanamura.

In addition, a major rework of the competitive system with new rewards is planned for early next year. Subsequent seasons will be themed around eldritch horror, Egyptian mythology, and witches, with a mirror universe where heroes and villains switch roles. And fans can expect three more heroes to join the roster in 2024, including a damage hero named Venture and a support codenamed Space Ranger.

Stay tuned for more details about Overwatch 2’s exciting future, to be revealed during a BlizzCon panel on Saturday.
